What is VW/Audi Component Protection?

Component protection is VWAG’s (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborghini) way of eliminating vehicle or component theft by keeping track of each individual component and which vehicle it’s assigned too from the assembly line.

When a component protected module is fitted to its non-original vehicle, many, if not all of its functions will be limited. This is to try and prevent the use of stolen parts in the second-hand market. If a VWAG vehicle is reported stolen, a flag will be raised with their database for the vehicle’s VIN and the internal serial number/coding of each module fitted to said vehicle, such as an Engine or transmission ECU, Infotainment/Radio unit or AC/Heater control panel) making it impossible for these parts to be used on another vehicle. This will raise an error within our diagnosis system (connected to VWAG’s servers) when trying to remove the component protection and not allow the technician to proceed, alerting VWAG to the use of stolen parts.

Component protection also applies to any brand-new parts purchased and fitted. It would need to be removed before the technician could proceed with and coding, adaptions, or basic settings or said component.

VCM II SP177-C1 vs. SP177-C

Folks talks a lot about China clone VCM II SP177-C and SP177-C1, saying they’re best VCM II from China. So, how much do you know about the two units? And what’s the different? Laura here will explain it from you all.

VCM II SP177C1:

VCM II SP177C:

Actually, SP177-C is same as SP177-C1.

Look here

– SP177-C1 PCB:

– SP177-C PCB:

http://blog.obdexpress.co.uk/2018/04/14/vcm-ii-sp177-c-pcb/

C1 have usb sticker for wifi. That is, only usb wifi is not included in SP177-C.

It’s only difference.

Both are Quality A version.

But vcm ii sp177-c1 is the most populous version, which supports WIFI and comes with the best PCB design. Works faster and more stable than any other units.

(Solved) Volvo VIDA 2014D cannot login since 01-01-2018

volvo vida 2014d has a login error. It’s not working since 2018

Volvo VIDA 2014D

Solution 1:

You must extract with winrar 2014D.exe patch and then edit the file “license” with notepad (2014D \ VIDA \ patch \ license)

Change:

serverType = “AIOC” subscriptionExpireDate = “2017-12-31 23:59:59”

with

serverType = “AIOC” subscriptionExpireDate = “2020-12-31 23:59:59”

After that you must save and replace the “license” file in 2014D.exe with the modified file (use winrar to replace file).

Next you must apply the patch and the program will open.

Solution 2:

Or download the patch already modified from here:

How to check BMW ICOM firmware need update + how update it?

BMW ICOM A2 diagnostic interface failed to be connected, because the firmware is too old and need to upgrade it.

Firstly, you need to learn how to check BMW ICOM firmware need update.

bmw-icom-a2-firmware-update-02
update the firmware of BMW ICOM Interface. You have no need to update it if it says FREE.
Please read the above photo. It shows FIRMWARE in red frame, that mean you need to

Secondly, update the firmware of BMW ICOM Diagnostic tool step by step.

1.Power on your icom interface by OBD cable, and connect it to computer by LAN cable. PLEASE make sure they are connected well because your interface might be damaged if disconnection during updating.

2.After connected, open the file ENGINEER TOOL on the desktop and you will see a file named ICOM FIRMWARE UPDATE. They are 2 BINs inside of it, ICOM-APPLICATIONIMAGE-XXX and ICOM-BOOTIMAGE-XXX. They are the files

 bmw-icom-a2-firmware-update-03

3.Open your IE and input the IP address of your icom. If you do not know what is the IP of your icom, you can use ISTA-D to find it. As below, the IP in green frame is the IP of your ICOM. It needs ID and password to enter in, the ID is root,pw is NZY11502.

 bmw-icom-a2-firmware-update-05
  1. After entering into ICOM by IE.Click UPDATE FIRMWARE and choose ICOM-BootImage-XXX.bin,choose Image type as SYSTEM and click SEND THE FILE. Click YES when he say Write the image file to the flash? You will see the red right blinks after that.

bmw-icom-a2-firmware-update-04

5.Now we click UPDATE FIRMWARE and choose ICOM-ApplicationImage-xxx.bin and then choose the Image type as APPLICATION and then click SEND THE FILE. Click YES when he says Write the image file to the flash?

6.Reboot your ICOM interface after you update those APPLICATIONIMAGE and Bootimage. And you need to wait for few minutes. Go to ISTA-D again, you will see the FRIMWARE turn to FREE. That means your interface is matched to latest BMW ICOM ISTA software.

Using the custom list to graph some live data

autel-md808-testing-12

Short term fuel trim and RPM should work for this test

autel-md808-testing-13

Maximum graphs allowed is only 2 at a time

autel-md808-testing-14

autel-md808-testing-15

There is also no amplitude adjustment for the graphs

autel-md808-testing-17

At least the graphs has a quick response time

A combined graph

Have to edit the contrast because it is difficult to see

autel-md808-testing-18

Personally would not recommend using the merged graphs because it’s not easy to see and keep track

I guess, in some occasion, having a merged graph is better than none

Enter on-board monitor test (mode 6)

autel-md808-testing-19

Toyota

autel-md808-testing-20

Looks like the monitor id’s are translated

Non-translated id’s will show up in HEX like ($01)

autel-md808-testing-21

Mis-fire monitor data

autel-md808-testing-22

autel-md808-testing-23

autel-md808-testing-24

Purge flow monitor

autel-md808-testing-25

Looks like not all test id’s are translated

Non-translated id’s can make some diagnosis difficult

autel-md808-testing-26

Also not all the test id’s applies to this vehicle

Here’s an example of translated id’s of the same car from my another scanner

autel-md808-testing-27

autel-md808-testing-28

Exit the main menu

On to the enhanced portion of Autel MD808 (the one that reads Scan)

autel-md808-testing-29

autel-md808-testing-30

autel-md808-testing-31

Here is the major downside of this scanner

There’s no auto id

autel-md808-testing-32

autel-md808-testing-33

The scanner is updated, but for some reason, the latest is the year 2014 (the vehicle is a 2016)

autel-md808-testing-35

Good luck on knowing the engine

autel-md808-testing-35

All vehicle information

autel-md808-testing-36

Auto scan

autel-md808-testing-37

Since the scanner is a regular MD808, it will show Engine, Trans, ABS and SRS only

If someone here is looking for MD808 for full-system diagnostic, you can go to http://www.obdexpress.co.uk/wholesale/autel-maxidiag-md808-pro.html

autel-md808-testing-38

Enter ECU and read live data

autel-md808-testing-40

autel-md808-testing-41

The data list seems to be mixed around where some can be graphed and some cannot

autel-md808-testing-41

autel-md808-testing-42

But there seems to be a bit of second lag when existing the control unit

autel-md808-testing-43

I give this Autel MD808 a 3.9 Star as a first impression because it could be better for its price. (Rating may change after further testing)

At least compared to the Launch crp129 I used in the past, the MD808 is the clear winner.
